Although there are numerous types of boxing training equipment a coach can use to teach and make his fighters better, two of the most beneficial are punch mitts and body protectors. Gear for boxing should be incorporated to achieve several outcomes. The purpose of any boxing training equipment would be, ideally, to help perfect technique, develop power and stamina, replicate real fight action, or devise strategy.
When you use a Body Protector, for instance, it shouldn’t just be considered an additional target, but fully utilized to provide actual striking points. If a coach keeps his hands up properly, in the correct position, the fighter must throw punches in between and around his elbows, like he would against an actual opponent.
The more you can use it to replicate an opponent, the more applicable it becomes and can be considered the next best thing to sparring.
The more interactive and realistic a coach makes the body protector, the better prepared the fighter will be to respond to any situation. If he grabs, holds, clinches, and makes them work on the inside or find their range to stay on the outside, the more it is like having a real opponent standing in front of you. The more any type of gear for boxing prepares a fighter for actual combat, the more they will know how to deal with specific styles and how to adapt.
Punch mitts are no different in terms of applying practical boxing trainer equipment to a workout.
The more they are used in interactive and realistic ways, the more beneficial a piece of gear for boxing they become. When punches are caught, thrown back, and used to work both offense and defense, the fighter becomes much more well-rounded.
Because a coach is seeing the fighter from the same vantage point as his opponent would, punch mitts are a fantastic way to practice and perfect the fundamental principles of boxing.
They can also be used to drill specific punches and combinations, and to develop more sound techniques. When operated at “real time” throwing exact punches and complete combinations, the punch mitts make a fighter think, react, and respond more quickly. Do that often enough and his ability to act becomes more intuitive and natural.
Yes. Both have their benefits. Shields provide more resistance and absorb punches better. Mitts are great for combination punching and working punches at different speeds and angles. Both are great for developing power and speed.
Most of our body protectors are constructed of sponge rubber and or layered foams. We have a wide selection to choose from here.
